To Know and Share Caves and Karst Symposium: Call for Abstracts and Registration is Open, France

This new symposium will occur on 6-9 March 2018, in Ardèche, southern France. It will focus on discussions between scientists, land and cave managers, NGOs, and cave and karst specialists to share their experience and knowledge in cave and karst management. The primary goals are to:

·       Evaluate current and future challenges in preserving and developing caves;

·       Highlight the necessity of interdisciplinarity for a better understanding and development of caves and karst; and

·       Present new methods for the conservation and development of caves and karst in a context of global climate change and local environmental, demographic, economic, and other stresses with a long-term view toward global geotourism.

Registration is now open and abstracts are now being accepted. The abstract deadline is 15 February 2018. Simultaneous English-French translations will be provided during the symposium. For more information see the attached Second Circular or visit:  https://dhuguet.wixsite.com/cavesymposium2018

Eurokarst: Abstract Deadline Extended

Dear friends and colleagues

The date for submission of abstracts (in English or French) for the Eurokarst Symposium is postponed until 18 October. Do not miss it!

Abstracts can be submitted at www.eurokarst.org, where you will find all other information on this symposium that will be held in Besançon, France, on 2-6 July 2018.

We remind you that at this stage of the procedure the summaries can be very short and present only the essential ideas.

These summaries will make it possible to evaluate the number of people who wish to participate in the symposium and who wish to publish a more complete paper. This will allow us to begin to estimate the number of people who will present their work in oral or poster form and thus design the symposium on this basis.

An extended abstract or a more complete article (depending on what you wish to submit) will be requested later (from December 4, 2016). The decisions of the Scientific Committee will be based on these final versions. We insist that the second deadline will only be accessible to those who have submitted their preliminary summary in October.

With all our friendships and we look forward to welcoming you in Besançon next year.

Truly

Catherine and Philippe

Friends of Karst Meeting at the Geological Society of America Convention

Hello Karst Colleagues:

(Friends of Karst Social Gathering) is planned, and the flyer is attached.  6:30-9:30 pm, Tuesday 10/24, at Optimism Brewing Company, 1158 Broadway, Seattle, 98122

It is, as always:

- On Tuesday evening.

- Open to all

- Sort of inconvenient.

- The place to meet your colleagues and talk about karst.

In keeping with our goal of “getting away from convention center”, you are invited to socialize at a well-respected brewpub, less than a mile from downtown.  We will have snacks, but not dinner.   However, you are welcome to bring in food, or to visit food trucks parked outside.

As you know, this casual event has no real sponsorship. Please consider contributing some $$ towards group snacks. Send check (made out to Ira Sasowsky), or cash, before September 20th to
