Тема: International Year of Caves and Karst: monthly Partners update

Dear Partners in the International Year of Caves and Karst,

Thank you again for joining and support the International Year. My big news this month is that the International Year is extended through 2022. This will not surprise many of you. The major event for the International Year will be the International Congress of Speleology. It was scheduled for France, this year in July, but because of the pandemic it was postponed one year (for more news about the Congress, visit https://uis2021.speleos.fr/). As a result, the International Year is extended through next year.

As you plan and promote your International Year activities, see this as an opportunity to reach even more people to benefit the world and your organizations. Think of 2021 as the virtual International Year and 2022 as the in-person Year. I expect that for many of you, in-person events will be easier to organize and will be much more fun.

On other news, we now have 183 partner organizations from many countries! Visit http://iyck2021.org/index.php/partners/ to see who you are and to develop partnerships and programs between your groups.

We have 75 completed events! You can find them at http://iyck2021.org/index.php/event-results/#. Many are video lectures and workshops that you can watch and enjoy at any time. We also have 110 events announced that will happen, or are already happening as a series of events. You can find them at http://iyck2021.org/index.php/events/.

As a reminder, if you have completed your event or when it is complete, please send a short report for the Event Results page, http://iyck2021.org/index.php/event-results/, to Jasmina whose address is near the top of the page.  It is easy. Simply copy the event announcement, except that “For more information” is replaced by “Event report” which can be a link to a video of lectures, news media reports or to a website, or a PDF or PowerPoint with the results of the event.

Posting your results is very important. At the end of the year we will compile the results of all the events into one document that everyone can use to demonstrate the importance of caves and karst globally. We hope it will help all of us find funding and other support for more exploration, research, and protection of caves and karst.

I hope you are all safe and well, and I thank you for your support of the UIS and the International Year of Caves and Karst. If you have questions or need anything from me or the UIS, please let me know.

George
