GYPSUM KARST OF THE WORLD (A.Klimchouk, D.Lowe, A.Cooper & U.Sauro, eds.).
International Journal of Speleology, vol. 5 (1-2), 1996 Theme issue.
This is the first fundamental international publication which addresses both,
general and regional aspects of gypsum karst. The volume over 200 pages is
organized in two parts: 1) General and Special Topics and, 2) Regional Reviews
and Case Studies.
The first part (11 Chapters) summarizes properties of sulphate rocks and
theoretical and field data on dissolution of gypsum, addresses the typology
of gypsum karst, speleogenesis in gypsum, hydrogeology and geomorphology of
gypsum karst, speleothems and minerals in gypsum caves, breakdown and
subsidence processes and environmental problems in gypsum karst terrains.
The second part (13 Chapters) provides a picture of gypsum karst around
the world presenting an overall review, as well as reviews of gypsum karst
in countries and regions where this phenomena is widely developed and well
documented (U.S.A., UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Baltic countries,
Ukraine, Russia and China).
Chapters are written by 18 authors from 12 countries.
The volume will be available in limited number of copies at the UIS Congress
in Switzerland at the special pre-publication price of $15. Regular retail
