BRITS TRAPPED IN CAVE

Six British scientists have been trapped in a cave in Mexico for five days, according to a Mexican newspaper.

They were among a group of 12 people who were studying a site near the city of Puebla, rescue services said.

The group became trapped after part of the cave collapsed, according to reports.

They managed to contact their colleagues outside by using a satellite telephone.

The six are reportedly in good health.

According to reports, authorities did not learn that the scientists were trapped for a number of days because they apparently lacked permission from the government to work in the cave, some 190 miles north-east of Mexico City.

It was not immediately clear what work the scientists were carrying out or who they were working for.

A rescue operation is expected to be launched to resuce the six.
