All over the world there are groups that promote modern
underground construction technologies, mostly called "trenchless
techniques". These techniques very often relate to cable-laying
without digging up the road. But the techniques are progressing
rapidly, also towards large scale tunneling etc. They recently
opened a web site. It is called the "Digging-Deep Homepage". It
can be found at: http://www.digging-deep.demon.co.uk/ and is well
worth visiting.

At the Internet newsgroups there is a newsgroup called
alt.college.tunnels. That attracked my attention, so I looked
arround. It surprised me that not a single posting related to any
sort of tunnel as we know it. My request for an explanation came
soon:
"I have been a subscriber to this newsgroup for approximately one
month. From what i can understand, "tunnels" refers to the tunnels
that exist on many college campuses, which lead from building to
building. These are usually some type of utility (heating pipes,
phone, etc.) tunnels. Many people gain entrance to these tunnels
and "explore" them. I have seen postings where some individuals
have maps to various tunnels.
hope this helps...

Armando"

Well it helps, another word added to my dictionary.
