Тема: International Year of Caves and Karst: Partners Update
Dear Friends and Partners in the International Year of Caves and Karst,
At the start of 2023, 903 International Year events were posted on the website. I asked everyone to send in any reports they forgot to send earlier. I thought maybe we would collect another 10 or 20 reports, but they just kept coming. Today we have 1,085 events on the International Year website! Thank you very much for your incredible work to better Explore, Understand, and Protect caves and karst around the world.
This is my final request for any more reports. Remember, any activity you organized that helped teach and promote the importance of caves and karst to people, even if just a few people, is an International Year event and should be recorded. This includes:
- Lectures/seminars
- Meetings
- News and Internet interviews
- News media reports (newspapers, television, radio, Internet)
- Workshops/classes
- Cleaning caves and sinkholes
- New books
- New or improved cave and karst protection laws
- Trips for the public to caves and karst areas
- Cave art and similar contests
- Cave parties
- And many more things
If you have any more reports for activities in 2021 or 2022, send them to me and our fabulous website manager Jasmina Rijavec (). Tomorrow I will start compiling all these events into a summary report on the International Year. I hope it will help to continue and better support exploration, study, and protection of caves and karst far into the future.
I also have one personal announcement, if you do not already know. I retired as Executive Director of the US National Cave and Karst Research Institute. It was an honor to serve in that job for over 16 years. I’m writing from my new e-mail address. If you are interested, you are welcome to save my new contact information below. While I have retired from the institute and will slow down in my work, I am not retiring from exploring, studying, and protecting caves and karst. If I can help you in any way, please let me know.
Again, thank you for all you have done for caves and karst worldwide.
George
