Dear International Year of Cave and Karst Partners,

Thank you for your continued support. Through your efforts we have organized 498 events around the world, teaching people about the importance and wonders of caves and karst. We have reached tens of millions of people and have many more events planned.

Let’s reach 730 events, so we will have an average of one event each day of the two-year period! I know it seems like a lot, but it is closer than you think. Some of you have already organized events but haven’t sent in reports to our website manager, Jasmina Rijavec (), so we can record and count them. This is especially true for those of you with events that continue over weeks or month, Each lecture or separate activity in your program is an event that should be listed on the website. Please send your event results to Jasmina in the simple format you see on the website:

Remember, at the end of the year we will collect and summarize all the event results to prove the importance of caves and karst in a publication that you and others can use to find more funds and support for exploration, research, and protection.

In less than 3 month we will have the largest event—the International Congress of Speleology in Savoie – Mont Blanc, France, on 24-31 July 2022. I hope to see and meet you there. You can find registration and other information about the congress at https://uis2021.speleos.fr/.

Please remember an important message and request I sent a couple months ago:

To support the International Year at the Congress, you do not need to attend the Congress. Do you have videos of your events for the International Year? The UIS wants to create a video for the Congress made of short pieces of your videos to show many highlights of the International Year. Do not send your entire videos, but send pieces that are about 30 seconds to 1-2 minutes long of the most exciting, interesting, important, or “crazy” activities from your events. We want to show what we have accomplished, and that we had fun doing it too.

Please send your videos to Anja Hajna at . If the files are too large to send by e-mail, use WeTransfer.com or other such services. Anja will need all your videos no later than 1 June 2022. Please start sending her your videos now!
