More than 25 European countries are present now! We are quite happy about this success, and we are looking forward to meeting you all in Gцppingen (central SW-Germany). Attached you will find the final program and information about the symposium as well as maps. Actual changes, if necessary, will be anounced at http://www.hoehlenrettung.de (klick symposium).
The mobile phone number of the registration office for urgent problems during the conference is +49-(0)179-6940958. The tourist information is available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at +49(0)7161/650-292 or -293. When you arrive in Gцppingen, please follow the yellow signs with a bat and the symposium ?1Ё on them. The route is marked from the train station to the symposium as the main routes for arrival with car. After your register, we will show you where you can park.

Registrations and spontaneous visits are further possible and welcome (now without claims of service, but we will do for you what we can). For further information look also the 2nd circular (catering, accommodation, etc.).

Excursions:
Please bring your personal diving suit/neoprene, SRT and basic equipment.
The following trips will be offered:
A) Laierhцhle (shaft and horizontal system, spaceous)
C) Todsburger Schacht (shaft system, spaceous, more than 70m deep)
D) Falkensteiner Hцhle (water cave under rescue aspects)
F) Caves of the "Fils"-valley (different vertical and horizontal caves)
G) RoЯgallschacht and Gustav-Jakobs-Hцhle (a vertical and a horizontal cave)
H) Various exhibition caves.
It is not guided and planned directly from participants on ?freeЁ days.
I) Visits of the fire department and red cross rescue department.
They are offered in the evening, two times from fire brigade and two times from rescue service. There are no parallel sessions, so you can attend without missing other events.
B) and E) are canceled.

Workshops:
The workshops are not guided; they are self-organized from the participants. Each participant should bring his rescue-equipment to show and practice with the others. Also short abstracts and drawings as handouts should be brought; they will be copied for each participant at the registration office. With this system you can get a maximum exchange of experience and the workshop will be able to work out new methods and techniques.
The following workshops will be offered:
No. 1 Care of people suffering from hypothermia,
No. 2 Mid-rope (basic) rescue,
No. 3 Communication in caves,
No. 4 Mines,
lasts over all 4 days and takes place in Freiburg, which is 250 km far from the main Symposium-site. Note, that if you have registered for it, you can?t do anything else. Only the registered participants will get the access-informations.
No. 5 Building tyroleans,
No. 6 Dive rescue,
No. 7 Rescue from "bottle neck" situations,
(No. 8 first aid is canceled).
No. 9 Hauling systems.
No. 10 Introduction and construction of stretchers.
No. 11 Warning systems.
No. 12 Rescue out of ?foulЁ air.

Chers Collиgue Spйlйo,

Durant le dernier Congrиs Spйlйologique Europйen а Lisbonne les 2 et 3 octobre 99, les conclusions du congrиs ont appelй а une Fйdйration Europйenne plus efficace et utile. L?Europe spйlйologique devient en effet une rйalitй qui rassemble tous les spйlйos europйens, qui sont face aux mкmes situations et problиmes dans tous les йtats europйens.

Ce sont aujourd?hui les objectifs de la FSCE, et le temps est venu d?avoir une Fйdйration Europйenne efficace qui sera utile aux spйlйologues et а la spйlйologie europйenne. Les deux principaux moyens pour atteindre ces objectifs sont d?une part de crйer une communication dynamique au sein de la FSCE pour les spйlйos europйens, et d?autre part de crйer des groupes de travail dans des domaines spйcifiques qui deviendront а moyen terme des commissions techniques de la FSCE. Concernant la communication, le premier numйro de la nouvelle lettre d?information FSCE Ё EuroSpйlйo ? sera йditйe en novembre. Si vous souhaitez la recevoir, vous pouvez remplir le bulletin ci-dessous.

Concernant les goupes de travail techniques, le Spйlйo-Secours est l?un des domaines les plus importants oщ la coopйration europйenne doit кtre entreprise. C?est pourquoi ce Premier Colloque Europйen sur le Spйlйo-Secours est essentiel pour crйer ce nouveau groupe de travail Spйlйo-Secours. Ainsi, deux tables rondes sont organisйes durant le colloque. Une pour dйbattre des objectifs et de la structure interne de ce groupe de travail et dйfinir l?йquipe du groupe de travail. Et l?autre pour discuter et modifier un projet de questionnaire spйlйo-secours rйalisй par le dйlйguй belge FSCE Jean-Marc Mattlet. Ce questionnaire sera distribuй а tous les participants.

A la fin du colloque, l?objectif est d?avoir l?йquipe du groupe de travail avec un coordinator et un questionnaire prкt а кtre distribuй а toutes les fйdйrations nationales au sein de la FSCE. During last European Speleological Congress in Lisbon on 2 and 3 Oct 1999, conclusions of congress have asked for a more efficient and usefull European Federation. Speleological Europe is becoming, as a matter of fact, a reality that assemble all european cavers, since the situations and problems you face in all european states are the same.

These are today the objectives of FSCE, and time has become to have an efficient European Federation that will be usefull for European cavers and speleology. The main two ways to reach these objectives are, on the one hand, creating a dynamic communication inside FSCE for european cavers, and on the other hand, creating workgroups in specific areas which will become at a middle term, technical commissions of FSCE. About communication, the first issue of the new newsletter of FSCE Ё EuroSpeleo ? is going to be edited in november. If you want to receive it you can fill the following form.

About the technical workgroups, cave rescue is one of the most important area where european cooperation must be carried out. This is why this First European Cave Rescue Symposium is essential to create this new european cave rescue workgroup. So, two round tables are organised during the symposium. One to debate about the objectives and internal structure of this workgroup and define the workgroup team. And the other to discuss and modify a project of cave rescue questionnary made by belgian FSCE delegate Jean-Marc Mattelet. This questionnary will be distributed to all participants.

At the end of the symposium the objective is to have a workgroup team with a coordinator and a questionnary ready to be distributed to all national federations inside FSCE. Of course you can contact me or Jean-Marc Mattlet for any further information (his data are on the questionnary). Have a good work there !
