Cavers Mailing List № 222
Представление аргентинской спелеогруппы
Автор: Grigori M. Sigalov
Дата: 12 Jan 1996

GEA (Grupo Espeleologico Argentino), the Argentine Speleological
Group is a non-governmental organization whose main objectives are
the study and preservation of natural cavities (caves, caverns).
Created under the laws of this country since 1980, its purposes have
been aimed to the exploration and research of more than 400 cavities
of this land which resulted in the printing of the first National
Catalogue of cavities. Made it possible, not only, the acceptance of
the Argentine caves data in the World Atlas of Cavities edited by the
International Union of Speleology (UIS) but, what is more important,
obtained the admission to this Union for this country during 1986 as
well.
Starting with the projected works which consisted on the recognition
of any cavernous fauna, it found the first "darkness adapted species"
in such environment for the Neuquen systems. From its very
beginning, GEA and other institutions of the Neuquen province
promoted the making of protectionist rules, target reached in 1989
with the publishing of the first provincial decree for the
preservation of the Cuchillo-Cura caves.
Since 1986 the association regularly publishes its research works in
the Magazine named "Salamanca", first argentine bulletin of
speleology. GEA labor is under the structure of workshops of
different areas such as research, preservation, broadcast and
publications. They are connected each other through interdisciplinary
projects which represent the soul of the association.
On the other hand, GEA provides the most important speleological
documentation center of Argentina consisted on library, mapstore,
photostore, and videostore. This information center is available for
the general public and is now being re-organized by means of the
library data administration system of UNESCO called MicroISIS.
To finish with, GEA is an integrated member of the "Comision de
Enlace Intertgrupos de la Republica de Argentina" (Linking
commission of argentine Groups)(future federation), and also is part
of FEALC and UIS associations. The weekly meeting is held on
tuesdays and fridays from 18 to 22 Hr in: Heredia 426, Buenos Aires,
Argentina
